About us

The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT is one of the world's leading research institutions for cybersecurity and privacy protection. The institute deals with key security challenges in business, administration and society, and conducts application-oriented cutting-edge research and innovation development. Numerous prizes and awards prove the high quality of the results and developments. The Institute supports its partners, for example, in the design of new IT systems, the protection of IT infrastructures and the development of new products and services. The headquarters of the institute is located in Darmstadt. In addition, the institute has a branch in St. Augustin near Bonn and an office in Mittweida. Fraunhofer SIT is one of the driving forces in the international IT security landscape and is part of the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE in Darmstadt as an institution of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with the participation of Fraunhofer IGD, Darmstadt University of Technology and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. ATHENE is Europe's largest research center for applied cybersecurity research and an essential part of the cybersecurity strategy of the Federal Government and the State of Hesse.
