The EU AI Act is now in effect - and it reveals an uncomfortable truth: Neither the CISO nor the Data Protection Officer is equipped to handle AI. 

The CISO protects the infrastructure. The DPO protects individuals. But who protects the output? Who notices if the AI is hallucinating, discriminating, or quietly and unnoticed creating liability risks? No one. Not yet, anyway. Because Article 4 of the AI Regulation establishes a new requirement: demonstrable AI expertise within the organization - and with it, the need for a new role: the AI Officer. This role steps in precisely where the CISO and DPO reach their limits: with the results produced by AI.
