More and more companies are handling their business-critical email communications via major cloud providers, whose infrastructure is predominantly located outside Europe or controlled by non-European providers. What goes largely unnoticed in day-to-day operations can become a problem in an emergency. A failure at the cloud provider, geopolitical tensions, regulatory intervention or simply an accidental account suspension are enough to disrupt communications. In practice, this risk is often underestimated and given little consideration in contingency plans.
