We are currently realising just how dependent we are on a handful of, mostly US-based, companies, and how painful this is, given the current US administration, which is rallying to their defence and views Europe as an enemy rather than an ally. Such companies are often grouped under the acronym GAFAM: Google (=Alphabet), Apple, Facebook (=Meta), Amazon and Microsoft.
The new aspiration is digital sovereignty, which has four distinct aspects, such as informational self-determination, standard protocols and open source. As key building blocks of secure IT environments, modern identity governance and administration systems are particularly well-suited to making an organisation more digitally sovereign.
