In many IT environments, permissions have grown organically over the years: roles change, projects come and go, and temporary access remains in place. The result is accounts with significantly more permissions than necessary for their actual tasks — an ideal entry point for attackers. A compromised account with overly broad permissions can gradually expand its privileges, modify security policies, or create new administrative accounts — on-premises and in hybrid environments, including in Entra ID.
