The office may be moving rapidly toward passwordless authentication, but the production floor tells a different story. Across manufacturing environments, shared passwords remain common because the realities of the shop floor do not align with traditional passwordless methods.
Workers often wear gloves that make biometrics impractical. Clean-room policies can restrict the use of personal devices. Contractors and agency workers arrive in large groups and require immediate access to systems and shared workstations. As a result, many organizations continue to rely on shared logins, creating security risks, compliance challenges, and limited accountability.
