Inspite of IT security provisions, data accidents are on the rise. Reasons are manifold. They range from negligence in IT administration and shortcomings in software applications to targeted hacking attacks. IT gaps open up every single day and typically in spots where they are least expected. As there is no panacea against data accidents, a generic provision is needed in order to protect data from abuse. The problem has to be resolved at its very root. If data was organised such that it would be worthless for unauthorized parties, data accidents would loose much of their horrors.
