Application security is currently undergoing extensive change:
Classic web applications are increasingly being replaced by APIs, with the aim of creating more open structures and achieving greater flexibility.

In order to gain greater agility, availability and dynamism in the digitalisation efforts of companies, there has also been a major change in IT infrastructure away from on-premise to hybrid cloud environments with modern container technologies and microservices. DevSecOps is one of the big buzzwords here.

All these new technologies and approaches have also significantly changed web application and API security. Due to the new challenges of highly distributed systems with multicloud approaches in heterogeneous architectures, zero trust is becoming a new obligation: identity is thus moving more into the focus of application and API security.

However, when talking about identities, another aspect besides security must also be brought into the limelight: Modern user-friendliness. For this, it is not enough to simply implement strong authentication. The user should not be deterred by overly high security requirements. With Continuous Adaptive Trust, the identity can be continuously checked for the currently required risk level, depending on space and time.
