
BSI Insights: Security for 5G networks
A particularly important future topic for the BSI is a securely designed 5G/6G infrastructure in Germany. To fulfil this cyber security goal, the BSI is active in Freital as a competence centre for 5G/6G in the areas of standardisation, specifications for certification and the creation of model security concepts.

Public mobile networks of the 5th generation are subject to legal regulations, in the development and updating of which the BSI is involved. The IT Security Act 2.0 gave the BSI, as the national cyber security authority, the task of auditing operators of public telecommunications networks and providers of publicly accessible telecommunications services with increased risk potential every two years. The subject of the review in the area of 5G is whether the operators comply with the legal requirements regarding information security from the Telecommunications Act.
