Ultra-mobile working enables company employees to do their work from anywhere as long as they have an internet connection and a mobile device. Increasingly, company-owned mobile devices can also be used privately. Ensuring data security and data protection is a major challenge for IT managers and requires suitable technologies and framework conditions.
For the mobile device management systems (MDM) used so far, there is only a "BSI minimum standard for mobile device management" in addition to the basic IT protection. Special solutions for secure mobile communication approved by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), on the other hand, have so far only existed in the area of secret protection (VS-NfD). Due to the use of containers and smart cards, these are often very complex and frequently had only low user acceptance.
Indigo is a new security solution for commercially available iPhones and iPads, developed by Apple and tested and approved by the BSI. It meets the highest data security requirements and is at the same time particularly user-friendly, as for the first time it is possible to use the pre-installed standard apps for e-mail, calendar and contacts when processing sensitive company data.
The lecture explains the framework conditions to be observed, the structure, the components and the expansion options of an Indigo system. It will be shown how the administration effort can be minimised by an automated distribution of the required mobile device certificates.
