AI promises efficiency gains, new business models and large-scale automation. What is often overlooked, however, is that the very data that makes AI systems so valuable is massively overexposed in many organisations due to access rights that have accumulated over time, unused access permissions and a lack of transparency. More than 95 per cent of all data access rights are not used - and each of these unused permissions is a security vulnerability.

The crucial question is therefore not what AI can do, but what it is permitted to access.
