Action description

Monitoring and forensics take on an important role in discovering unknown vulnerabilities in cyber security and preventing further damage. To achieve this, large amounts of data must be processed and visualised in the best possible way. For this purpose, visual analytics methods have proven themselves, which combine algorithms of automatic data analysis and machine learning with new visualisation methods to enable experts to interact with these data sets. Of particular interest are methods for recognising unusual events that are difficult to identify automatically. Especially for such situations, visual analysis as a collaboration of human expertise and machine processing lends itself, for example, via an active learning approach. Massive amounts of data cannot be transferred as quickly as they can be processed and how humans would then like to access them. Progressive approaches in data analysis ensure that human experts can always work interactively with massive amounts of data. Another important facet is human aspects in threat prevention, which includes understanding cybersecurity issues among company employees or even private users. Personal or private data stored on the internet also plays an important role here. Using tools such as TransparencyVis, visual explanations can also strengthen the cyber security of companies and private individuals for non-experts. The lecture will provide insights into the possibilities of visual analytics in cyber security on the basis of current examples.
