Documents and certificates of
all kinds, such as job references and grade transcripts, invoices, etc., are
easy to falsify thanks to many digital tools. Authenticity is often hard
verifiy, for example by calling the invoicing party or the former employer.
Also, when many documents need to be issued and verified quickly, this is often
a problem.
DocSeal solves these problems. The new application from Fraunhofer SIT foils
common manipulation tricks - for paper documents and PDFs. To do this, the application
simply uses a colorful barcode that is printed on the document. Authenticity
can then be verified using the DocSeal app, which works on any common
smartphone with a camera. The colorful barcode is scanned, and after a few
seconds the smartphone screen displays information on whether the document in
question is legit - or whether it has been altered or even completely forged.
Without a database and data protection-friendly.
