About us

Fraunhofer SIT deals with the central security challenges in business, administration and society and conducts practice-oriented cutting-edge research and innovation development. We support our partners, for example, in the design of new IT systems, the protection of IT infrastructures, and the development of new products and services. At the same time, we advise on important IT security issues and are involved in national and international standardization. The more than 200 scientists at Fraunhofer SIT deal with current topics and issues in cybersecurity research and develop new technologies and concrete solutions for real-world challenges. The institute is part of the National Research Center for Applied Cyber Security ATHENE in Darmstadt. ATHENE is the largest research center for applied cybersecurity research in Europe and an essential part of the cybersecurity strategy of the Federal Government and the State of Hesse. ATHENE accompanies and supports the digital transformation of society, the economy and the public sector to improve cybersecurity and data protection. In a unique and innovative cooperation model of university and non-university research, ATHENE conducts application-oriented top-level research for the benefit of the economy, society and the state. ATHENE is a research center of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with the participation of the Fraunhofer Institutes SIT and IGD as well as the TU Darmstadt, the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
